DIGITAL FRAMES DISPLAY OPTIONS
WHERE Will the User Display the Digital Frame?
The ultimate place for the display of the digital frame is a very important consideration when attempting to choose the right one. Will it hang on a wall or be set on a surface such as a desk or a shelf?
Placed at Eye Level?
When placed at eye level, photos with a lot of detail can be fully enjoyed.
Placed Above Eye Level?
For placement above eye level, such as on a wall, it would be better to include photographs that feature smaller groups of people or close-up still life photographs or pictures.
Landscapes shot from a distance might not work as well. Those who are visually impaired might also have a problem with frames placed above eye level.
As you can see, it is so much easier when you know the preferences of the recipient!
Does the Frame Plug into a Wall Outlet or Will it Take Batteries?
The option for both features would, of course, be preferable!
If there is not the option for using batteries and a wall plug is needed, the positioning of the frame will depend on the availability of a plug. (If the dangling cord is annoying, it is possible to route the cord behind a wallboard.)
Frames that are 'battery powered only' contain batteries that are rechargeable. Therefore, even if the frame is battery powered, it will still need to be plugged in periodically to recharge.
Examples of frames with rechargeable batteries include:
A computer may be required to recharge the batteries. Another important point to consider, especially if the recipient does not have or use computers! You will find a number of frames that do allow the option of either plugging into a wall receptacle or into a computer to recharge.
There are battery chargers available that can run digital frames at times when you do not have access to a power supply. (These chargers will need to be recharged as well). They are fairly expensive but can run several frames at once.
The less expensive ones can be mounted to the back of a digital frame and will run without power for a specified amount of time.
Portability?
If taking the frame to show to others as well as showing it off at home is desired, than portability would an important factor to consider.
Portable frames should have a case included with the packaging that will protect the frame during transport. It would also be helpful if the frame is capable of being run by some type of battery power. See an example here.
