Samsung Refrigerator with Wi-Fi Digital Frame
In January of 2010, Samsung introduced its SRT746AWTN refrigerator with an integrated Wi-Fi digital photo frame. A refrigerator with a digital frame results in a media center in the center of the home without the usual clutter on the refrigerator.
The pairing of a digital frame with a refrigerator is not new. In 2007, CEIVA was the first consumer electronics firm to pair with a refrigerator manufacturer (in this case, Whirlpool Brand Refrigerators with a “Centralpark” connection). CEIVA developed a high resolution, 8 inch active matrix digital TFT LCD screen with a resolution of 640 x 480 to fit into the power adaptor on the door of the Whirlpool stainless steel refrigerator.
The Whirlpool refrigerator and the CEIVA frame are sold separately. The Whirlpool Centralpark Connection allows for connections to a portable DVD player, MP3 Player or cell phone to the refrigerator as well as the CEIVA digital frame and possible pairings from other electronic partners.
The CEIVA for Whirlpool Brand Refrigerators with Centralpark Connection can be purchased at CEIVA on sale for $99.
Since this electronic manufacturer produces both digital frames and refrigerators, the digital frame will evidently be embedded in one of the company's refrigerator doors. This particular refrigerator will be a white appliance. The technology of the near future is leaning toward Wi-Fi appliances that will connect wirelessly with all manner of electronic devices in the home. I believe it won’t be long before we see other appliance manufacturers jumping into the “connected” ring with all types of home appliances!
